earlier research. There is an initial assumption that children will suffer as a result of a family dissolving, although it is recognised that the degree to which a child will
be impacted by a family dissolving, typically a divorce, will be dependant on many factors, not only the resilience of the child, but the internal dynamics of the family. For
example, where there is cooperation between the parents during the split there is likely to be less negative impact than where there is a non co-operative relationship. Likewise, the situation
prior to the dissolving of the family unit will have an impact. The research was undertaken in order to assess the potential of an intervention prior to the usual
referral system where support and counselling is provided outside of the school setting with referrals to external agencies. The findings of the research demonstrated that a specific intervention style did
appear to have impact. The intervention involved the use of a conflict resolution model of family systems treatment, provided by community agency counsellors. This was undertaken with the child and
with the custodial parent, with the aim of reducing the misbehaviour at the school through the resolution of conflict. The results of the interventions, which were undertaken for a total

treatment measure; an adapted conflict tactics scale as published by Fischer and Corcoran (1994), completed immediately prior to treatment and then six months following the treatment, within this there was
a reasoning subscale and a verbal; aggression subscale, there was also the use of a physical aggression scale. The idea of the delayed second test was to allow time for
