The relationship that I share with Shawn is one of mutual trust and respect; The relationship that I share with our community is a similar one of love and loyalty.
As perhaps the only individual in this matter close in relation with both Shawn and with the community, I am in the unique situation of being able to assert confidently
that my brothers behavior would be better-corrected by the court rendering sentence offering an alternative to prison. Shawn is both the responsible father of two young
children and a resident in his own mothers home where he shall be well-supervised and even disciplined when necessary. Other than the two similar incidents on his record, Shawn has
for the most part, been a productive member of society. He has guaranteed me that if given the chance, he will continue to strive even harder than ever to
exhibit self-motivation, integrity, and dedication to legitimate work. Shawn is someone currently involved in an aggressive job campaign; one whose efforts seem near consummation. And while he has undeniably
acted in violation of a NJ State Statute, I believe that the Court will recognize that in light of his unfortunate and incidental situation (Shawn was in the "wrong place
at the wrong time"), it would be counterproductive both to my brother and to the community to remove him completely from any opportunity to work or to visit his children.
Finally, I urge the Court to consider punishing Shawn for his crime via a progressive and appropriately educational alternative to prison. Thank you for your time
