that are produced for simple entertainment such as comedies, that present stereotypes almost naturally, without thought. As the society changes and grows, especially in light of politically correct ideals, the
African American is portrayed in many different ways, obvious and otherwise. The following paper examines how African Americans are represented in the film Rush Hour 2. Representation
of African Americans in Film: Rush Hour 2 In many ways the character of Carter, the African American in the movie, could be seen as almost any race. He is
a comical character who, aside from specifics, is simply a cop who is gregarious and who is, in the beginning, on vacation. There are many elements in his character that
go beyond any culture. He is honest, has integrity, is a cop, and also simply wants to have fun. He is loyal to his friend Lee, demanding honesty and helping
his friend out at the cost of self sacrifice and the nobility or honorability of his position as a police officer. In essence, he is simply a man trying to
enjoy his vacation but pushes aside that vacation to help his friend find retribution for the murder of his father. There are moments, however, that are perhaps inconsistent such as
when Lees character insists, to his face, that Carter would not take a bullet for someone else and Carter admits that is true. What makes the stereotypical presentation of
