have to change to survive. Belasco wrote the book because this is his field-hes a professor of management at San Diego State University; a speaker and best-selling author and he
was the founder and CEO of a "global software and service firm" that he guided to a "100 percent compounded average, annual ten-year growth rate, and 30 percent net-after-tax margins"
(James A. Belasco, 2004). He has launched several start-ups and high tech companies and he brings his knowledge of what makes businesses successful to his writing. The main idea of
the book is that change is necessary if companies are to remain viable, and that executives often fail to recognize that what worked in the past is actually keeping them
from succeeding in the present. That is, because methods worked for them before, they keep doing the same things, even though it may not longer be effective, or someone else
