the world around them in different ways. Renoirs work had a tendency to portray the soft and beautiful aspects of life through French Impressionism. His works depicted people in relatively calm settings, bringing into play the gentle experiences in life. Van Gogh, as most people know, was a man wracked with internal struggle and chaos. His works were bold and vibrant and his style was perhaps a mix of many different styles, presenting work that is obviously that of Van Gogh. The following paper examines Renoirs "Lady at the Piano" and Van Goghs "Bedroom in Arles," discussing the two and comparing them. The paper compares their conceptual style, that which gives the viewer a very different feeling and impression. Lady at the Piano Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges in 1841. He was and is considered to be one of the most powerful French Impressionists. At the age of 13 he began painting porcelain in a factory in Paris, "gaining experience with the light, fresh colors that were to distinguish his Impressionist work and also learning the importance of good craftsmanship" (Pioch). In addition we note that his "predilection towards light-hearted themes" that were to mark his work, were influenced by the Rococco masters, the work of whom he studied at the Louvre (Pioch). Renoir struck up many friendships with other famous painters of the time such as Monet and he also struggled early on with his artistic career. There came a time when he was finally recognized and ceased to worry about his financial position when one person, Paul Durand-Ruel, started purchasing his work on a regular basis.
