provide. The word describes a process or action that can be pleasant or unpleasant depending on what is being delivered. A pizza or loan car can be rendered; so can
justice and injustice. Rendition, as defined and implemented by the administration of former U.S. President George W. Bush following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is a use of language
sugarcoating an action that is savagely unjust and terrifying. Bush secretively and menacingly picked terrorist suspects off the streets and in their homes to interrogate them and sometimes punish them.
These suspects did not know what their alleged or possible offense was, exactly who was arresting (or kidnapping) them, and where they were being taken; nor did their families and
friends know. It is evident that they were being deprived of their basic legal and human rights supported by all advanced nations, including the United States. These are rights affirmed
by the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which, among other things, is designed to universally prevent invasive and illegal actions such as improper detention, abuse, and torture (Gutierrez, 2006).
And news reports have shown that torture was one of the primary methods to try and attain pertinent information from these alleged terrorists. It seems fairly clear that the
