supermarket, and was acquired by Wal-Mart in 1999. The company introduced a change into the way that the staff were to be paid. The company introduced profit related pay,
this was introduced as part of a major restructuring and was a strategy being used by the company partly to reduce the costs, but more importantly to give the employees
a greater interest in the underlying business (Asda, 208). The staff were nervous and resisted the idea, the impression for many of the staff were that they may face
falls in pay, especially as this was accompanying cost cutting measures and reflected the fear that is inherent with change. The company undertook a great effort in communication which was
accompanied by a guarantee that payment levels would not drop, but that the employees would be able to benefit from better tax treatment.
The advantage in this was that there was no financial disadvantage for the employees, but they had a stake in the profitability of the company, increasing corporate awareness. This
is also an advantage for the employer, it is also to the advantage if the employee in this case as they have a chance that profits will increase their pay,
and a guarantee that it will not decrease with the introduction of the new payment method as well as a reduction in the amount of payment of tax and the
employer only pays out is profits increase (Asda, 2008) (seen in chapter 9 of the sources provided by the student). The potential of benefiting from profits, once the culture has
