Vedic traditions were actually developed in relationship to, most especially, philosophical outlooks. "Philosophical discourses and pursuits were at first specially developed by the Ksatriyas, but they soon became the prerogatives
of the Brahmins. The Chandogya and Kausitaki Upanisads illustrate these successive stages" (Arumugam, 2006). In one respect they recognized intuition, not reason, in terms of Vedic development and saw intuition
as the best path to ultimate truth (Arumugam, 2006). They were also responsible for ideals that struggled against mere ritual or sacrifice. Lastly they were instrumental in changing ideals in
stating, "It is by renunciation and absence of possessiveness that the soul is saved" (Arumugam, 2006). Radha and Krishna The next topic is that which relates to Radhas
devotion to Krishna and how this is a model of the bhakti devotion. Radha was Krishnas love and lover and she was incredibly devoted in a very passionate yet all
engrossing manner that was consistent (Immortal Love Legends, 2006). Bhakti "is the continuous, consistent conviction that the Lord is with us" and this involved duty as well. In this one
can see how it demonstrates the love of Radha towards Krishna, perhaps representing how people should also be in the religious tradition as well (Panduranga, 2006). In terms of this,
bhakti, challenging dharma it seems that one could envision that no matter their position, their rank in the caste system for example, there is room for spiritual enlightenment and devotion.
Jain Vows The next question addresses the five Jain monk vows and the vows of the laymen in Jainism. In respect
to the five vows for the monks they are non-violence, truth, non-stealing, celibacy, and a non-attachment/non-possession vow (Five Great Vows, 2006). These vows are relatively straightforward and essentially all inclusive.
