whereby global philosophies intermingle with that of the host population, legal mandates have given employers specific guidelines in order to properly abide by religious tolerance in the workplace. Dress
codes have instigated myriad lawsuits due to the refusal of a given company to allow any drift from established policy. While it may seem like favoritism to permit, for
example, a Muslim worker to wear a headscarf during Ramadan yet not allow another nonreligious employee to wear some other type of unapproved headdress, the law states these are two
entirely different circumstances. When Ms Pathan applied for a firefighting job, she was well aware of the dress code policy upheld by every fire department in the country; to
expect she should be exempt from such long-standing and safety-specific policy is to place the entire company and the general public in harms way. At issue here is the
notion of undue harm; to excuse Ms Pathan from wearing conventional firefighting attire places the onus upon the department that her religious beliefs do not inadvertently cause harm to the
operations safety. The extent to which the departments ability to provide lifesaving services if Ms Pathan were permitted to where her niqab and skirt to an emergency call will be
significantly compromised when - upon running into a blazing house - she is unable to securely adhere an oxygen mask to her face, climb a ladder or keep from becoming
part of the fire herself from not wearing appropriate fire-retardant clothing. Because of the dangerous nature of firefighting, her request cannot be considered discriminatory as defined by law but
