Dean and their friends who attend a Christian school. And religion is at the crux of the plot where Mary is chosen to save Dean, but what does this attachment
to religion say about society? Religion is something that has been with society always. Although people differ in personal beliefs, the institutions are the building blocks of cities and suburbia.
Yet, religion has regional flavoring. In the East for example, the Pilgrims would arrive and religion would spread up and down the sleepy towns on the coastline. Later, as new
immigrants came to America, many would come from Ellis Island. There were many Jews and Catholics to come to America during the latter part of the nineteenth century and early
in the twentieth. In the twenty-first century, there are a variety of religions but certain ones dominate. Witham describes the way religion exists in the United States as follows: "On
a map, these show up as Roman Catholics in the Northeast and Southwest, Baptists in the South, Lutherans in the upper Midwest, Mormons around Utah and Methodists in a belt
from Nebraska to Virginia" (A1). Religion is something that would spread and also, because there is no official state religion, religious freedom would prevail. But religion is paramount on the
