The intent of this paper is to explore the so-called six commonalities that exist between religions specifically for the religions of Christianity,
Judaism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, and Taoism. They are: 1. agreement that the material realm (that realm of empiricism) is not a limitation on existence; 2. Belief
in the innate capacity of all human beings to know God, that they can be taught to do so; 3. The comprehension of God is Truth; 4. The
Conformation of God is Virtue; 5. The configuration of God is Beauty; and 6. The concentration on God is Prayer. Arguments will be presented both in support
of the contention that there are certain commonalities in these religions, that they are in effect saying the same thing, as well as arguments against that contention.
The belief that all religions, in effect, are delivering the same message is perennialism (Cutsinger, 1997). It should be pointed out up front that while
there are certainly commonalities, religions are quite diverse. Most believe in the existence of God and use faith, not empiricism, to validate those beliefs. This is true not
