and tragic trip to climb Mount Everest "Into Thin Air" there are several expressions of regret concerning the way decision were made, actions that were undertaken and the ultimate deaths
of several of the team. In order to assess regret, whether this is real and how it is present the work, and how it manifests.
To consider the way regret may be observed it is necessary to define it, regret can be defined as "to feel sorrow or remorse for an act,
fault, disappointment, etc" (dictionary.com, 2009). The term regret is used, but infrequently, but the actions which are outlined and the way that they are presented appears to lend credence to
the level of regret that is felt by Krakauer with the sorrow and remorse that is shown. One of the themes that was present throughout the book, and for which
regret may be a suitable emotion was the way that low down there was an emphasis on the need for teamwork, loyalty and trust between the climbers but as the
disaster unfolds this concept of support and working together appears to fragment and results aggravating an already bad situation. Looking at the book there are a number of indicators, both
proving the presence of regret both explicitly and with inferences (Kunda, 1999). Looking at the events and the reports the evidence appears to suggests that a great deal of the
regret is due to Krakauer, and his fellow climbers not living up to their espoused moral values, a potential source of guilt that leads to regret (Tannenbaum, 2007).
