G. Bolman and Terrance E. Deals "Reframing Organizations" is a detailed examination of the framing process. Chapters 15, 16, and 17 of this book offer a particularly useful overview
of how framing relates to management and leadership. "Integrating Frames for Effective Practice", Chapter 15, examines how frames are chosen and integrated into management either singularly or several simultaneously.
Chapter 15 is particularly enlightening on the subject of what can happen when one individual or group is using one frame and another individual or groups is using a
different frame. Chapter 16, "Reframing in Action: Opportunities and Perils" explores how frames can be used to analyze the various possibilities that exist in practically any situation, to
look at the situation through "multiple lenses" to determine what is happening and what options are available to you (p. 321). Chapter 17, "Reframing Leadership", using frames to
explore leadership itself, defining both its capabilities and its shortcomings as well as its relationship with management. All three of these chapters provide invaluable insight into the factors
that translate into organizational success or failure. Bolman and Deal (2003) frequently start their chapters with a brief glimpse into history, into a
snip of time where leadership and management decisions were at their utmost importance. Chapter 15, for example, starts with the situation that confronted lame-duck New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani
on September 11, 2001 with the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Those attacks, of course, resulted in the complete decimation of two of the most recognizable and
important buildings in U.S. society. They also resulted in the loss of thousands of lives and in a psychological impact that we are still struggling to overcome even today.
