For example, Information Technology (IT) has been able to break down many geographical barriers and has facilitated communication and the proliferation of information. However, just as the environment has been
able to provide many opportunities it has increased the scope and scale of risks and security issues faced by businesses in their everyday operations as well as those that may
be faced where new ventures or projects are being considered. In studying for the BA Security and Risk Management a great deal has already been learned including increased awareness of
the relevant issues, with knowledge of facts and issues as well as the development of relevant skills and transferable knowledge that will be valuable in the commercial environment after graduation.
The development of analysis skills is one of the most important elements, this is vital in the area of security and risk, and is a very useful transferable skill.
For security and risk management to be effective there has to be a full recognition of different types of risk. While some risks may be readily apparent, however, not all
risks are as easily identified. The requirement to analysis causes of risk and the links to many areas of business studies provides for a greater analysis skill. For example, knowing
the connections between corporate culture, employee motivations and the potential for internal risks such as theft or sabotage to emerge (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007), allows for internal risk to be
assessed considering HR elements. Likewise, an understanding of financial aspects of a business will increase the ability to assess risks associated with international trading (Howells and Bain. 2007). The skills
