MacIntyre (1985). Virtue is defined as "moral excellence; goodness; righteousness" (Dictionary.com, 2010). There are many different individual virtues, from compassion, humility, forgiveness to gratitude and courage. Of all the virtues
that an individual can display, in their daily lives, at home or work; it may be argued that courage is the one that is most needed and utilised, present in
every decision which is made. To consider the role and importance of courage its role as a virtue and the way it may manifest may be considered. Virtue theory
is a normative theory, it is unlike the more dominant it does not look at the way ethical behaviour takes place; instead it looks to ethical character ands the embodiment
of virtues in those that are virtuous. The main difference in terms of considering virtues as opposed to ethics; ethics may be seen as used to determine wish actions are
correct, whereas virtues are more concerned with the net, and the characteristics associated with virtue. When looking at virtue theory it may be argued as being a general term
it incorporates a number of different theories and approaches. When considering virtue, and its incorporation of courage, Aristotles theory of eudaemonia is a good place to start. This is not
only a military, but also for the basis of many later ideas. The work produced by Aristotle on ethics is The Nichomachean Ethics, in which he describes virtue as a
practice that is learned from doing becoming a habit. Within this concept there are three components; ar?te, phronesis and eudaemonia. Aristotle argues that in living an individual life they needed
