is to help individuals develop as reflective practitioners, individuals capable of constantly analyzing and adapting their perspective based on new information, new situations and continual self-assessments. Reflection is a
process of purposeful assessments and action related to a specific situation that allows the individual to integrate personal, professional and research-based information about a situation in order to secure a
resolution. The first step of a reflective practitioner is to observe and describe the specific situation. Observation and Description requires that the observation be completely objective. Teacher and
student feelings, perceived or real, are left out of the evaluation. Instead of saying the students did not seem to understand the lesson well, the reasons for this observation should
be noted. An observation may record that when students raised their whiteboards with the answers ten to fifteen students had written the wrong answer on all eight questions asked. A
large part of teaching includes student documentation. Instead of saying Aiden was angry the teacher should describe what Aiden did instead. This might include something like; Aiden threw several puzzles,
turned over ten chairs, and hit Daniel when Daniel refused to give him a toy truck. This step in the process can be internal and self-reflective or it
can be a part of team approach to problem solving. Purposeful and directed methods observing and describing the situation is a central point in determining change. The second
step for the reflective practitioner is to demonstrate analysis, exploration and reasoning, all factors that transform the description of the situation into a plan through which change can occur.
Analysis, exploration, and reasoning in reflection require that the teaching situation be analyzed. Using pedagogical terms will help clarify improvements that need to be made and what worked well. Reflection
