and inspiring detective work through the eyes of a historical crime solver. The stories not only serve as a mystery adventure but also as valuable history lessons. The stories of
Judge Dee reflect the historical uses of various methods used to fight crime in that era. The art of solving mystery crimes has evolved over the
centuries and we stand in a place today that is supposed to the be the most modern and up to date abilities in history. While it is true that we
have incredibly advanced technological remedies to previously unsolvable questions there will always be things that we left by the wayside and wish now we could retrieve them once more
for our use. In the Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee the reader is taken to a land far away in an era long ago. Through the
authors eyes the reader is treated to the inside methods that dominated the detective world at that time. While they did not have the technology that we have today the
reader learns there are ways of old which at times served a greater purpose than anything we have currently. In several of the stories there are
methods used to gather information that we are bound by law here in the west and in this day and age not to use. For instance Chinese torture which has
been renowned for centuries as a means to get information out of war veterans and the like. However in the Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee it was also used.
