Taxman (DATE) reported that most correctional programs do not reduce recidivism. Programs such as boot camp and event those that increase the amount of contact between an officer of the
court and the offender have not been successful (Taxman, date). However, research studies that made these and other conclusions have been highly criticized for their methodologies (Taxman, date). This author
suggests that not enough attention has been paid to the implementation of correctional programs that are intended to reduce recidivism (Taxman, date). If a program is not implemented correctly, it
has little chance of success. Taxman (DATE) makes an important distinction between an intervention and a program, i.e., a correctional program. A clinical intervention is one that is based
on theories related to behavior and specially to changing behaviors (Taxman, date). A correctional program is a set of activities, each of which may not have the same goal or
intended outcome (Taxman, date). The author rightfully points out that an offender may be assigned to be involved in different activities and they are supposed to understand what those activities
are supposed to teach him but that is not what happens. The offender often has no idea what the goal is of each activity and certainly, has no idea how
these are connected or how they are supposed to help make the transition from prison to community (Taxman, date). In most cases, correctional programs are not based on any theoretical
