Testament, Jesus becomes the sacrificial lamb in the New Testament. This essay discusses the concept of redemption beginning with explanations of the different forms of redemption. The concept of
redemption in the Bible is demonstrated through numerous verses from both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Redemption Definitions Redemption means "either strictly deliverance by payment of a
price or ransom, or simply deliverance by power, as from oppression, violence, captivity, etc." (Gigot). In the Old Testament, redemption may be of persons, animals or property. In the New
Testament, redemption is directly related Christs redemption of man from sin In the Old Testament, redemption usually refers to deliverance from bondages with a price paid a redeemer (Rightmire).
The root words most often used for redemption are pada, gaal, and kapar (Doud; Gigot; Rightmire; Wolfe), matsa, which means to find(Wolfe). Pada is a legal term that applies to
the laws regarding the firstborn, substituting something for an animal or a person (New International Version, Exod. 113:13; 34:20; Num. 18:15-16). Gaal is the legal term used to signify deliverance
