Such is the case with the phenomenon known as red tide whereby a toxic algal bloom caused by any number of man-made instigators poisons food sources and threatens the lives of those who consume the tainted delicacies. Inasmuch as the sea sustains all life - whether on land or in the water - its contribution to world survival equates to food, natural resources, drinking water and the protection of endangered species, a role it cannot play if its waters are full of red tide toxins. past; due to a combination of polluted waters and reduced food supply from red tide toxins, the once-plentiful marine mammal has had to fight for its very existence. Without
question, the ocean waters are not what they used to be. it was only a few decades ago that food obtained from the sea was fit to be eaten without
the worry of pollutants and toxic chemicals. Today, however, it is a very different story. The damage that has been done to the oceans environment due to red
tide is something that affects each and every aspect of Alaskas waters, with particular emphasis on the sea otter population. The consequences of
the damage that has already taken place are only a glimmer of what will occur if such destruction is allowed to continue at this rate. The otters, who have
