first inning. Larger-than-life Hideo Nomo, starting pitcher for the Red Sox, was not a happy camper as he endured his first loss with the Sox in three decisions.
Manager of the Red Sox Jim Williams, says Nomo "just misfired off his location, and Martinez got it. Martinez became just the fifth player in Major League history to
hit a grand slam in seven consecutive seasons, joining Willie McCovey (9), former Red Sox slugger Vern Stephens (7), Cecil Fielder (7) and Gil Hodges (7). "I believe in
him (Nomo), Williams added. "He cant pitch good every night." The stats agreed with Williams: Nomo threw 55 pitches for only 30 strikes, and lasted only two innings.
