be too much. After a few days, there was a call to stop. Yes, there were just too many volunteers. By and large, while volunteerism is something that is
rather popular of late, and has been for quite some time, it is also something that tends to occur in spurts. Also, certain types of volunteerism is more popular than
others. For example, while many people want to work at animal shelters and with heroin babies, they may not want to volunteer to clean up the park. They may
not want to work in old age homes. Certain jobs are more conducive to volunteerism and while those places perhaps attract many people, other places on the contrary requisite more
volunteers. Further, there are many myths that need to be dispelled about volunteerism and the state of volunteerism. Also, when plunging through the literature, there is disagreement in terms of
how volunteerism is faring. Yet, there is much anecdotal evidence to suggest that things are not so good. At firehouses and ambulance squads in communities that use volunteers, there is
usually a shortage. The work is grueling and while rewarding, many people just do not have the time for it. This is because if one is to be on call
at a fire station or first aid squad they must devote a great deal to the endeavor. They cannot just volunteer a few hours per week or when it suits
them. They must be trained properly and a lot of time goes into that. They are tested, authorized and given a great deal of responsibility. Sometimes the work is difficult
