of simple survival. In essence, this is the foundation for immigration during all periods in the history of mankind. Humans wish to find better work, more opportunities, less persecution, and
a chance at a better life, or a better chance of surviving more peacefully. In the following paper we examine the reasons why many people migrate, predominantly focusing on the
migration from parts of Europe to Britain. The paper then addresses problems migrants can, and do, encounter when they live in Britain. Reasons for Immigration One of the
primary reasons people immigrate, and are immigrating to Britain, is because of the opportunities inherently possessed by the country at this time. Apparently Britain is in a position where there
is a shortage of skilled laborers in relationship to British citizens. One author states that, "On the other hand, skills shortages are increasingly apparent, especially in the public sector. The
speed with which the government has executed a U -turn in its approach to immigration owes much to its need to bring in foreign workers to meet its recruitment targets
for the NHS and education" (Anonymous Go away, we need you; Immigration; The immigration contradiction, 2001; p. 6). Mention the reasons people migrate e.g. work, family, escape persecution. In addition
we find that these economic reasons are further supported by economic conditions and opportunities in Britain. One author states that "the recent rise in immigration reflects four forces: the strength
of the British labour market, globalisation, increasing economic integration and labour mobility within the EU, and rising political instability around the world" (Anonymous Go away, we need you; Immigration; The
