hypocrite "whose promises of Heaven set hellish forces loose in a good mans family" (Molieres Tartuffe), with the plays sarcastic barbs most obviously directed toward mans sometimes-questionable moral objectives.
One might readily consider Moliere as one of Corneilles prot?g?, inasmuch as he based much of his own work upon the influence of Corneilles earlier productions. In essence, Moliere
took what Corneille had started and moved it further along the path of accepted comedy during the reign of King Louis XIV. It is interesting to note, however, that
Molieres inspiration did not come from Corneilles comedic tendencies, but rather upon the playwrights work in French tragedies. He took what was tragic and turned it into comedy while
at the same time maintaining the importance of structure and style, which serves as a critical component of Molieres mastery as a French comedic playwright. "How dare you even
