Technology has provided many entertaining and interesting aspects to these particular learning tools, some of which have proven extremely successful at reaching an otherwise struggling student. Language exists within the external world as an artifact that is a collection of symbols in admissible combinations. It is also an embodiment in the brain of the symbols used and the principles that determine their combinations. The brain uses the same machinery to represent language that it uses to represent any other entity. Neuroscientists have come to understand the neural basis for the brains representations of external objects as well as their events and the relations of those events. This simultaneously gains insight into the brains representation of language and into the mechanisms that connect the two (Damasio, 1992). By assimilating technology and reading, the relationship between retention and recall become less of a challenge to children with different developmental disorders. Children of all learning aptitudes are experiencing an overwhelming increase in literacy rates due in great part to the implementation of a fairly new technology: interactive computer programs. Particularly evident of this success is the drastic improvement in reading skills of kindergarten and elementary school children. The advent of computer-based learning programs allows for a number of teaching enhancements not otherwise available in the conventional format. The children respond more positively to the lesson plans and as such are gaining significant strides in their reading comprehension.
