they fostered outside relationships (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). In other words, she did not want her employees to rely on her exclusively. This is actually good advice in a world
where managers try to hold on to their power by not allowing their employees to flourish. In fact, this is an example of a good leader who allows for her
employees to grow within their own roles. In addition to trying to build a climate of collaboration, Jill also made certain that her people were recognized for their accomplishments
and made to feel important (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). The anecdote is used as a springboard for discussion. Authors then quickly conclude that in order to foster a climate of
collaboration, trust must be achieved and relationships should be facilitated. Trust is discussed at length and authors claim that without trust, it is impossible to lead effectively (Kouzes & Posner,
2007). They also advise leaders that they should be the first to initiate truths (Kouzes & Posner, 2007). This is sage advice. After all, in order to open up relationships,
someone has to start. A subordinate will be more likely to trust someone who begins to trust them. Then, a reciprocal relationship will be built. While authors make a
