to transport supplies as well as gather the supplies they needed to construct their towns. With this new construction and development came people to populate these towns and to
live in new homes and create communities. And, with more and more people in these communities, there were more opportunities for jobs and industry. It was as
if one development was led by another. With each new result of the railroad there was another result. Some were good and others not so good. Some
examples of good results would include travel opportunities and economic growth. Additionally, urbanization allowed for industry and with this came the ability to now transport goods quickly and easily
to a variety of locals. In terms of negative results, there were those too. First of all, many, many people died in the making of the railroads.
Construction lasted years and was hard, difficult labor. Often, the heat was intense and supplies were very limited. Men were away from their homes sometimes years at
a time. It is truly amazing to consider the sacrifices which these people made for their country. Additionally, the displacement of Native Americans from their land is inexcusable.
The absolute neglect with which this matter was handled is most unpleasant and an excellent example of the animosity and resentment of the Native Americans.
It is the inception of the railroad that truly revolutionized the concept of urban communities. For the first time in history, people had a
means of mass transport and this changed everything. Not only were they able to sell goods elsewhere, but buying goods from other communities was now a real possibility as
