of prejudice and unease as it respects the religion. It is also important to note that, apart from 9/11, religion is at the crux of the well known conflict in
the Middle East that affects Israel and a strip of land nearby that the people have come to call Palestine. A student submits the following statement: "One of the truisms
of the Middle East is that its environment is the most fertile for enduring conflicts." Why is this the case? It seems that to some extent, religion is truly behind
this. It is not as if religion is a cover for what is at the crux of the conflict. There is a sense that God must rule and this is
embraced by both sides. For example, when it comes to the Palestinian issues, both the Jews and Muslims see the land as dedicated to them by God. They do not
care about the modern state and what that means. Rather, they see their existence and meaning and purpose as being tied to a holy cause. Therefore, compromise is unlikely. A
student talks about the" energizing character of religious zeal. " Indeed, religion is something that is taken seriously by the people and give them the impetus to go to war.
