character of Morrisons story, the girl who wants the bluest eye. Anyone with any intelligence and compassion will surely see that the conditions in the novel are incredibly real in
relationship to the social racism aimed at the African American. They have been habitually, subconsciously, and consciously pushed into a position in society that is generally far below that of
whites. This is clearly something that speaks of racism coming from the whites towards the blacks. However, on the other hand there are moments in the book where one could
argue the opposite. With this in mind the following paper examines the theme of racism in Morrisons novel Racism in The Bluest Eye
One of the most powerful, and also subtle, indications of racism in the book comes from the excerpts, and the continuing excerpts, which illustrates words from a childrens
reading book about Dick and Jane. Anyone who grew up in the 1950s or the 1960s, learning to read, are familiar with these reading books that teach children how to
read. Morrison presents these excerpts, and the distorted excerpts, to illustrate a nation that has long held racism out for all to see. "Mother, Father, Dick, and Jane live in
