proof that there were variances in race and for example, whites would score higher than blacks on IQ tests, but Chinese would score higher than whites. The idea to emanate
from the work, and which sparked debate was that whites were superior to blacks. Not only has the book been bashed by the general public but academia has not accepted
the work with open arms. One point in discerning race is the idea that IQ is a factor in defining intelligence (Hughes PG). The fact that a persons IQ actually
signifies intelligence is thought of as being nonsense and was long ago discarded by both pure and social scientists (PG). The fact that scores for blacks were lower than for
whites was not a surprise. That is, it is supposed not that blacks are inherently inferior, but rather that the test is flawed, geared to a white audience, or that
blacks receive a lesser education in general. Another point some make is that many blacks are environmentally handicapped; in other words, because they were raised in poverty more
often, the motivation to learn is often done away with early on (PG). Thus, a number of environmental factors play a role in test score outcomes. Obviously, the notion
that differences of intelligence exist are often proliferated by white supremacists and other bigots in an attempt to justify their positions. But while intelligence cannot truly be measured, is there
a reason to suggest that those of differing races do differ physically and physiologically? There are of course different characteristics attributable to races. For example, those who are of certain
backgrounds have different colors and types of skin. Italians tend to have olive skin whereas blacks have dark skin and hair. Those from certain parts of the world have very
