relationship with God. In this book we are offered many personal experiences and perspectives as Gibbs engages in the careers of coach and NASCAR owner. The following paper examines three
different quotes from the book and discusses how they relate to the theme of realization for Gibbs in regards to his relationship with God and his personal life.
Racing to Win Gibbs was, and is, obviously a very driven individual who wants to succeed and wants to win. His realm of profession reflects this need as he was
a coach for a major NFL team and then is now, at the time of the writing of the book, a NASCAR team owner. As such his focus or desire
in life is one that involves a great deal of competition and the need to win. But, throughout the book he often comes to realizations that indicate he must allow
God to be a powerful part of his life if he is to be a success. The first quote to illustrate this is as follows: "Unfortunately, it would take
a number of years and a lot of frustration before I realized that He could promote me much more effectively than I could promote myself. I became obsessed with wanting
to be a head coach. I was willing to pay any price to get there...and I almost did" (Gibbs 49). In this we see that he was coming to a
realization that he was very driven, driven to do whatever it takes, to be a success and to win, or be the agent of wins for a team. But, he
realized that he must possess some level of humility. In this he is presenting the reader with a very powerful foundation to the theme of his book which is that
