(Cooper 55). It is a highly controversial topic since proponents of racial profiling argue that it constitutes a tactic that is helpful to law enforcement agencies and is specifically needed
in the war on terrorism, that is, targeting people of color as possible suspects. On the other hand, it is a tactic that frequently targets law-abiding, innocent Americans. The following
examination of racial profiling focuses on Americans who have a Latin American heritage and takes the position that racial profiling should be discouraged as a law enforcement tactic, as well
as in other facets, of Anglo-dominated society because to do otherwise violates the values and principles on which American culture is based. Racial profiling violates American principles In their
article on racial profiling, Gene Callahan and William Anderson use a case scenario to highlight the injustice of this practice. They describe a "well-dressed young African American man" who is
driving a Ford Explorer who is not violating any traffic laws being pulled by patrolmen. One trooper mocking asks, "Hey, where did you get the money for something like this?"
(Callahan and Anderson 36). They proceed to dismantle his car, looking in the side panels for drugs. The ostensible reason for the stop is the accusation that he was speeding.
Nothing is found, so they simply write out a ticket for speeding and leave the young man seething in his anger and humiliation at this violation, sitting in how non-trashed
