have been levels of discrimination. This is due to a lack of understanding, ignorance, and fear. Many people argue that here, in the United States, racial discrimination is something that
does not exist and that this is a nation that works incredibly hard to rid the country of any such realities. However, in all honesty, racial discrimination happens all the
time, and the reasons are still the same, lack of understanding, ignorance and fear. The following paper examines some of the history of racial discrimination in the United States and
then discusses how racial discrimination still exists today. Racial Discrimination: Past and Present The people who chose to come to this country, a new country, and start a
new life for themselves and future generations were individuals who were likely quite racist, despite the fact that they felt they were starting a new country based on ideals of
equality and freedom. These individuals, the Colonials, felt that such freedoms were for white people, people of European descent, and they even narrowed that to the English Europeans. With
the Colonials came an expectation aimed at the Natives in this land. They were considered savages for the most part and were discriminated against, despite the fact that the Europeans
were a minority. The English Europeans felt they were better, for the most part, than the Natives and treated them in such a manner. Then came other Europeans throughout the
early forming of the nation. There were Germans and Jews, Russians and Irish. There were Chinese and Japanese and Italians and Scots. In essence, this nation quickly began to fill
with different cultures, races. In many cases we would assume that the Irish and the Italians and the Jews and the Russians and Scots would be embraced due to the
