in high positions. Othello, truly a prince, is a man who is all but rejected, condemned and tricked by many who surround him. Through rejection, condemnation and trickery he loses
all self confidence. And, through the involvement of Iago Othello slowly becomes mad, showing his weaknesses and his vulnerability. Part of the reason why Othello appears to be such a
focus of anger and fear for so many characters is because he is not white, but rather a very dark Moor. And, with the following in mind it seems almost
natural that racism exists in this play: "There is a romantic union between black and white which gets destroyed because most people think the relationship is wrong. At the time
the play was written, 1604, even the Queen of England was racist so there must have been a strong hatred of blacks around that time" (Othello - A Racist Play?).
With these things in mind we see that Othello becomes an incredible threat to Iago (and other characters). Iago sets his plans in motion to ultimately destroy Othello, a plan
that works. The following paper argues that Iago is a jealous and bitter man with racist ideals. Act I and Iago In the very beginning of the play
we see Roderigo and Iago discussing the fact that this Moor, Othello, exists and is now in a position of power within the masters house. In this scene, prior to
Roderigo and Iagos disruption of the household, we see how Iago is incredibly unhappy that the master has chosen the Moor for particular duties and that Iago is likely incredibly
