around the country as I travel and it seems that many areas in the nation are segregated. Of course, this is not true everywhere and I have not traveled much.
However, it seems that race is sometimes an issue and not only is there prejudice, but there is a lack of experience. In fact, it is said that prejudice is
a prejudgement and this judgment seems to be made by people who are simply not aware of either differences or similarities between races. They just have too little experience to
comment. Yet, they do anyway, and to some extent that ignorance breeds prejudice. Someone may make a comment and not realize that it is a hurtful stereotype that they may
have picked up on television. At the same time, sometimes there is real disdain for people of other races. There is a sense that people of minority backgrounds are not
up to standard. It is because I live amongst people of different races, which in some cases includes different heritage, that I have a broader perspective than most. I understand
that differences are just that. People are different, but it does not mean that they have to live separate and apart from others. I grew up in Clarksville and I
never left. I have seen families come and go and have seen the racial composite change from time to time. Still, it has by and large been an aberration, representing
the melting pot that America is supposed to be but existing as somewhat of a mystery at the same time. How can this town exist without conflict? How can it
continue as a microcosm of the nation that few ever see, but perhaps provides a solution to the racial conflict in society? My perspective may be unique because I
