2007). Research Problem The research problem identified in this study is based on the fact that 30 percent of the population of this country have experienced domestic
violence at some point in their relationships, and that research has explored a number of factors that contribute to this study (Ellison et al., 2007). Generally, research has focused
on the impacts of specific demographic characteristics, including socioeconomic conditions and race/ethnicity as indices of domestic violence, but the researchers considered the belief that other factors can contribute to the
prevalence of domestic violence, including education, earning potential, employment and religious identification. This study expands on existing studies related to the precursory conditions for domestic violence, and determines factors
that may reduce the chance of domestic violence in specific demographic groups, including the impact of religiosity (Ellison et al., 2007). This is the foundation for the development of
the three hypotheses used in this study. Theoretical Perspective The theoretical perspective identified in the study relates the belief that religious participation may reduce domestic violence, while also maintaining
that it could also increase domestic violence, by applying male-dominant norms to marital relationships. From a sociological perspective, the relationship between religious participation and improved marital conditions have been
