where the lines seem to be drawn as far as the abortion issue stands. One camp, mainly traditional Christians and conservatives, believe that abortion is murder and should be banned
all together, while the other camp believes that a woman should have the right to say what happens to her own body. By and large, however, it has been the
conservative movement who have continued the debate and it all stems, primarily, from the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe versus Wade. Antiabortion groups have been around since the nineteenth century,
when abortions were discouraged, the thinking being that if women had children (and lots of them) they would remain domesticated. The twentieth century would see conservatives embracing the rights of
the fetus, claiming right to life. Right to Life has become the new title for those conservatives whose goal is to ban all abortions. Jane Roe took on the Texas
court systems and won. In 1973 her lawyers successfully argued that that Jane Roe and any other woman like her had the right to safely and legally end her pregnancy
without ruling from a doctor. Prior to this it was illegal to have an abortion performed, punishable by sentencing and jail time, unless a doctor stated that the pregnancy was
threatening the life of the mother. After much deliberation and extreme media frenzy, Roe won her suit of right to privacy stating that this right "is broad enough to
encompass a womans decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy" (Tompkins, Watts 1996). This case was an extraordinary one
because it affected more than just those involved in the suit. Roe v Wade made abortion services safer and more accessible, to be sure, but they also challenged the other
