a report that will a) boost employee retention; b) attract new talent and c) meet ongoing goals. The student has also been asked on ways to research and present the
information. There is a good deal of literature that ties human resources to practically everything business oriented. Theres a great deal on
human resources as it pertains to competitive advantage, shareholder value and the bottom line. For this particular presentation, its probably a good idea to tie the concept of human capital
and its effectiveness to the bottom line - in other words, how a company can either earn or save money by developing a solid human capital plan.
Though a company may have a variety of goals, the main goal for any entity is, of course, survival through profits (assuming this is a
for-profit organization). Without the proper resources, companies dont do well on their own. This is where "people management" or management of
human resources capital is so important. According to Watson Wyatt Worldwide, there are huge connections between people practices of a company and the companys shareholder value (Parker and Brown, 2000).
In fact, the connection is so important, Watson Wyatt developed its own scale: the Watson Wyatt Human Capital Index (HCI) (Parker and Brown, 2000). Though a variety of factors can
influence a companys performance, the HCI proves that developing and maintaining human capital practices can boost a companys shareholder value by as much as 30 percent (Parker and Brown, 2000).
