For others, a firms internal abilities, resources and tools are the nuts and bolts toward creating specific strategies. Among the internal forces tools, the resource-based view has occupied an important position in the toolbox of many strategists. The resource-based view, or RBV, points out that a firms internal resources, abilities, tools, capabilities and so on, are essential to developing and forming strategic action. In fact, to strategists who embrace the RBV as the basis for planning, internal resources are more important to developing and sustaining a competitive advantage then just about anything else. Though the theories and definitions behind the resource-based view are fairly straightforward, as with anything in the business and academic literature, this concept has been analyzed and examined to determine how it fits into strategic theory as well as real-world operations. In this paper, well examine some of the literature pertaining to the resource based view both as a theoretical concept and a tool in the real world of strategic planning. Literature Review As with any kind of strategic tool, RBV has been a magnet for a variety of business academicians, who have attempted to prove, and disprove, the viability of this particular theory.
