standard organization. However, with globalization, competition and technology, change among business organizations is more the norm than the exception. Change can be
good - it allows an organization to become more adaptable to market conditions and helps, in the long run, the organization to become a stronger, more competitive one.
But if change is so good, why to many employees see it as a bad thing? For one thing, its human nature to avoid
change, namely because it takes people out of their comfort zone, requiring them to do things differently (Kaltenbach, 2002). Change also takes time -- and may create difficulties, whereas before
there were none (Kaltenbach, 2002). Many times, the concepts of "weve never done it that way before" or "its always worked the old way, so why change?" are reasons why
employees have some trouble embracing and adapting to change. Another reason why employees may not adapt well to change is because they
dont understand the advantages of it -- no one communicates it to them. Communication is such an important factor of change management, however (Kaltenbach, 2002).
The problem here is that there tends to be the gap between what is said and what gets done, mainly because employees may not truly understand the
motivation or reason behind change (Daly et al, 2003). Instead of being told that changing a computer system, for example, will ultimately help decrease down time when it comes to
sales and inventory management, employees are told simply that a new computer system is going to be installed, and theyd better learn how to use it if they hope to
