areas the needs and emotional stability of the child, regardless of sex, is similar. Does the sex of the child necessarily predict the ability of a child to rebound to
a displacement situation? Or is the ability to rebound more indicative of a childs natural propensity to adapt to their environment? One of the prevailing myths is that a child
from an abusive or neglectful background will tend to propitiate the same types of circumstances in their adult lives. A study done by ISU on children of divorced parents showed
that if the children had warm supportive parents, then they were more likely to have satisfying relationships later in life(Campbell, 2001). This directly dispels the myth that children of broken
homes grow up to create a broken home situation for themselves. This study was done over an eleven year time span and tracked nearly two hundred children from adolescence to
young adulthood. What would seem to arise from all the various discussions of what particularly impacts a child, one of those areas is in the media saturation. First, the
media seems to be sending mixed messages. Disney films routinely show two parent households, but then the characters are often in suggestive situations in which children may receive the message
that casual relationships are the best. Stereotypes are reinforced by the cartoons, and without the increased parental interaction, children may very well be a generation raised by their televison sets.
