are not quite so mature or effective. We outlined the definition of the term "character," while noting that little of the literature really had a handle on the connection between
effective leadership and character of the leader. It was surmised, therefore, that character could be defined as looking out for the good of society, whether that society happens to be
employees in a company, the community in which a firm operates or the international arena. But to be a "complete" research project, our next step is to develop a theoretical
framework from which to research this particular thesis, along with a scientific research design. A theoretical framework, according to Sekaran, tells us
the theory, the purpose of the study and variables that need to be studied in an attempt to support (or refute) the thesis.
Lets take the example of Pors study between adoption of management tools and the success of leadership (2008). The authors thesis is an observation - that libraries take part
in a variety of measurement activities such as user studies, staff surveys and studies without really melting those studies into the organizations strategic process. In the beginning, Pors states that
in terms of theory, there are important factors related to interpretation and use (or not) of measurement types, noting that there are important relationships between factors. The purpose of the
study, and importance of the study, he points out, is to determine how much leadership and organizational culture influences active, and effective, use of measurement and feedback devices (Pors, 2008).
Along those lines, his theoretical framework includes the thesis (that there is a connection between non-use of measurement and interpretation), the framework (questions
