This is true in the province of Ontario, in Canada, as well. Much like other locations, Ontario has standards it requires from its business owners, as well as rules and regulations that business owners are expected to follow in order to stay in business. These can range from taxes owed, to business registration requirements. In this paper, well examine some of the rules and regulations required when it comes to launching a business in Ontario. Though some of these rules are specific to certain types of industries, well be offering a general overview, with the understanding that certain types of businesses might require certain types of regulations. Business Registration Requirements Because of the Business Names Act of Ontario, all businesses working in the province need to register their names before conducting business (Canada-Ontario Business Service Centre, 2008). The exception to this rule is that individuals who work under their own names dont need to register, unless a word is added to the name - such as John Smith Crafts (Canada-Ontario Business Service Centre, 2008). According to the Ministry of Government Services, the Business Names Act applies to sole proprietorships (except the situation above), partnerships, corporations and various limited liability partnerships (2008).
