Program. Much of the academic literature regarding recruiting and retaining volunteers involves building a relationship between the volunteer and the organization
as an important part of the effort (Bussell and Forbes, 2007). Some recommend use of the marketing mix (product, pricing, promotion and distribution) as part of the effort as well
(Bussell and Forbes, 2007). In this case, the product would be, of course. Enrichment Services and the service it provides. Pricing would be less about cost, and more about what
the volunteer would gain when working with this organization (in other words, what the volunteer might need to give up in time, such as a few hours a week). Distribution
would encompass the volunteers duties and promotion would, of course, provide a compelling description to the volunteer the benefits he/she would receive in working with the organization.
But the thing we need to keep in mind here is that volunteers are going to gravitate toward the organizations with which they identify the
most. For example, those who choose to volunteer at animal organizations are most likely pet owners themselves - and most likely theyve adopted dogs, cats or other animals at the
local pet shelter and want to help others the way theyve helped their own animals. Theyve had first-hand experience in working with these abandoned animals, and feel very strongly that
