appear to be more than skin deep, though exacerbated and reinforced by socially accepted mores and norms. Given this then what should one infer from race? J. Philippe Rushton is
a professor in Canada and has authored a book called Race, Evolution and Behavior in which he suggests that his findings indicate that race is more than skin deep, in
fact that there are biological and genetic predispositions in the areas of "brain size, intelligence, temperament, sexual behavior, fertility, growth rate, life span, crime, and family stability". This would lead
one to believe that certain races might fall into the higher or lower ends of the spectrum. What Ruston states is that his research included over sixty biological and behavioral
variables and was conducted in a variety of countries and locales. By and large he stated that the results were the same regardless of geographic or cultural regions. What
this would seem to indicate, then, is that there is a biological basis for human variation in that if everyone were in the top echelon there would be more wars.
Someone has to be the leader, someone has to be the follower in order for a society to work, or an ecosystem to work, for that matter. Biologically, there are
forensic differences between the races as well. For example, Ruston states, those of African descent tend to have narrower hips, high levels of sex hormones in their bodies and have
a quicker reaction time than any of the other groups. Likewise, his research bears out, those of European descent have wider hips, lower levels of sex hormones and tend to
be slower in their physical prowess. The wider hips, Ruston states was a biological necessity because European women were bearing children with a larger head and brain size(Ruston 2003). He
