meet them. Security is an increasing concern; attacks such as Aurora are increasing, with both frequency as well as the sophistication which is projected as increasing. If the frequency and/or
severity increases it is likely that although security is already a buyer concern that this will increase further. With a projected increase in the level of importance in security
for the buyers it is necessary for a company such as Intel to look ahead and undertake strategies based on projected future needs, not only current needs. It may be
argued that Intel were already doing this with the development of vPro, as security requires both hardware and software elements. However, moving this security development into the marketplace had proven
difficult, and despite two years worth of investment vPro enabled chips were not being supported by a large amount of software. McAfee provided an opportunity for the organization not only
to meet the future needs and to the security, but do it utilizing existing resources of vPro, as the McAfee antivirus software was one that have been designed to facilitate
vPro. This made the acquisition of McAfee not only a related diversification, which would help to potentially increase revenues from a related source, and facilitate a product development strategy, selling
the products to their existing market (Kotler and Keller, 2008), it also made it a vertical integration strategy (Mintzberg et al., 2008). With this acquisition Intel are better placed to
