to Kelly & Nankervis (2001) the Recreation Opportunity Spectrum (ROS) is a multiple "land use management tool" (p.211). It is presently the only "macro or regional recreation inventory, planning and
management tool" (Haas, 2002, p. 82). Its initial use has been for the optimization of "forest resources exploitation" (Driver et al., 1987 as cited in Kelly & Nankervis, 2001, p.211).
It is also something used mostly only in North America (Kaltenborn, 1999). There are several advantages of using the Recreational Opportunity Spectrum as opposed to just having individuals choose activities
haphazardly. There are benefits of ROS for the individual as well as for those who tend to the land. First, it should be said that utilizing ROS is more organized
than simply choosing things haphazardly. One advantage of ROS is that it allows for the proper management of the areas resources (Kelly & Nankervis, 2001). It seems that it
allows for the management of resources in such a way as to optimize its utilization, rather than use a less exacting approach. Another advantage is that it provides a coordination
of offerings with other regional offerings (Kelly & Nankervis, 2001). This likely reduces the possibility of duplication as well as the provision of complimentary activity possibilities. Another advantage is that
it allows for substitute settings if desirable (Kelly & Nankervis, 2001). One can clearly see that ROS has advantages. QUESTION #2 Can you suggest any
