For example, it would be true to say that it is part of human nature to fight for our own survival. This is something shared by all people. However,
it is also true that human nature contains "a physical aspect (physiology), a mental aspect (psychology), and a social aspect (anthropology)" (Zertlyn, 1996, p. 172). In other words, human
nature encompasses physical needs?all people require food, clothing and shelter. It is part of human nature to develop language, walk upright and grasp objects utilizing our unique and practical
opposable thumbs. There are mental asp!ects to human nature. We tend to be curious; were problem-solvers, who tend to add to our societys accumulated store of knowledge. Were also social
animals. Part of human nature is that we like to live in groups. This anthropological aspect of human nature means that although the basic pattern laid down by the
physical and psychological components of human nature remain the same for everyone, these factors can be expressed in vastly different ways due to the anthropological component. In other words, different
societies can have totally different ideas as to what the term "human nature" encompasses due to different cultural factors. 2. What is the role of government? ! In order for
people to fulfill the social component of human nature, they live in groups. In the simpler, more primitive societies, this groups can be quite small and made up primarily of
kinship groups. Even at this level, however, governance takes place?usually in the form of a council made up of the older members of the tribe. In other words, in order
