Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 12 page discussion of the role of questioning in shaping our society.
Examines foundationalism, the immovable and irrefutable cornerstones of
knowledge from which logical deductions can be formulated, and emphasizes that not only the positives of society such as religious beliefs and science are considered foundationalist but so are the more negative aspects of society such as disbelief in a divine power or even in the inherent nature of right and wrong. Turns to the classical
writings to support the emphasis that in order to grow and prosper we
must continually examine the consequences of our actions in terms of
societal welfare. Emphasizes that it is not enough to simply accept a
teaching or a directive, we must continually question those teachings
and directives in terms of societal good. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
