This time period is frequently referred to alternately as the Elizabethan Age and the Golden Age. It was one of the most progressive times in England in terms
of national and economic achievements as well as in developments in the arts and academia. It was also a time that required great fortitude. Although her predecessor had
been a female, Elizabeth was still faced with a world in which primarily men were in charge (Neale 29). Elizabeth I would not only hold her own in this
male-dominated world, she would triumph. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I she would be credited with many accomplishments. She
would establish the Church of England as the foremost church in England. The Church of England was a Protestant institution so this change was a significant one from the
primarily catholic orientation the country had previously experienced. It was one which would put England at odds with other Catholic European powers. Queen Elizabeth I, through her competency
as Queen, managed to avoid outright war with these countries for most of her reign. Elizabeth was the daughter of King Henry VIII.
She resembled him both in her physical appearance, red hair and pale eyes, and in her artistic inclination. She was talented in music as well as other arts but
perhaps her greatest gift was her oratorical skills. She quickly gained and held the loyalty of the English people. Although there were times of unrest due to internal
